As a home hobby baker it is simply too expensive for me to purchase commercial tubs of modeling chocolate. I've tried numerous recipes and had poor results. Using this book I successfully made my own Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, and White Chocolate modeling chocolate clay. I keep it double wrapped in a container and take it out as needed to make roses, leaves, and cut outs for cookies, cakes, and petit fours. The properly made White modeling chocolate colors beautifully. This was the answer to better decorating. Most importantly you can do so many of the same things you do with fondant, except this tastes and smells perfectly delicious. Great book. I posted photos of my first roses & fantasy flowers here.

A very strong start that just sort of fizzled out before the end. The author starts off giving you some great information about the various types of chocolate and the sweetness level as well as the different sugars that can be used to create a good modeling chocolate.  She provides solutions to problems that may arise while creating or working with the modeling chocolate. For instance if it is too hard, too soft, too oily, or too dry she explains what you can do to fix each of those problems.

Unfortunately, once she gets into the actual decorating section, it feels more like an opportunity to brag about her own achievements and give some questionable decorating practices like using styrofoam!  Styrofoam is NOT to be eaten. Hiding inside of chocolate it could easily be mistaken as edible and someone could choke on it. A better suggestion would be create a chocolate foundation or use rice crispy treats, or cake pop... But do not put something like styrofoam inside food. Unless the item is obviously not to be eaten, decorative columns, fountains, plastic lattice, you should not be putting things that cannot be eaten inside where people don't know that it's not food! That's just bad practice. Also, in the digital version many links gave a 401 error. Not me best spent $17.

In conclusion, the section on how to make and work with the modeling chocolate was good, the decorating sections, not so much.

I prefer to decorate in buttercream, but there are some things that just don't work with buttercream. Because I'm admittedly anti-fondant, I stumbled across the website for Wicked Goodies while searching for alternatives. There were so many great things on that site that I had to purchase this book about modeling chocolate. This book is filled with decorating ideas, amazing pictures, and instructions for using modeling chocolate. If you are a newbie to that medium, like I am, then this book is invaluable.

This is a great 3D chocolate decorating tech book. A dream for bakers come true. You will love the colorful pages, easy to follow instructions and recipe. There is not a strange and difficult material searching. I recommend this author books📚. Must have it.

I've been dabbling with modeling chocolate. Fondant dries slowly and sags. Gum paste flowers are as tasty as eating powdered sugar out of the bag. This book will give you many good ideas on what can be done with modeling chocolate, how to make it and going beyond the basics.

This book is a great reference for working with: modeling chocolate, chocolate "plastic" (plastique), candy clay. Tells you the difference and great text on the recipes as well as great ideas and instructions! It's fun to learn about and play with this edible play dough!

This book is definitely for beginners. I love the in depth guide and information on modelling chocolate, there is a lot of attention to detail helping you to understand the medium and to get you confident using it. The book is let down by the poor designs and the writer's poor modelling skills. If you are new to the modelling chocolate medium this is great, you will learn a lot about how to use it and if you want to do basic designs this book is great but if you want to learn how to make models or improve your skills this really is not the book for you. It's probable that you can get all the information contained with in the book on the internet but I think this guide is a definitive one when it comes to this medium, the trouble shooting guide is a great and worth knowing as modelling chocolate is temperamental and there are a lot of variables in making it.

This book `gives' endlessly. Yes, I am a beginner so can only view from that perspective...and I only bought it 5 minutes ago so no chance to experiment yet...and there are a couple of wacky designs that I won't use ... but it looks very well researched and I couldn't ask for more.

A very good book, very accessible, very explanatory, with many photos.
